The screw jack is a mechanical device that transforms an input rotary movement into an output linear movement.
The screw jack is a mechanical device that transforms a rotary movement at the input into a linear movement at the output.
It can be used individually or in multiple combinations through shafts, joints and bevel gearboxes.
The drive can be manual or motorized.
The jack is used to align, move and position any type of load.
Screw jacks
Advantages:
- Easy to use, high reliability and minimal maintenance.
- Safety and positioning accuracy due to the internal mechanical system.
- Irreversibility: they are able to withstand the load applied even if the control stops without the use of brakes or other locking systems.
- Synchronism of movement even in case of non-uniformly distributed loads.
Loads:
- Traction: if the load is tensile, the jack can work at the maximum permissible load.
- Compression: if the applied load is compressive, the screw can be subjected to the so-called "peak load" which limits the maximum load allowed on the jack. This effect depends on the length of the screw, the type of constraints and of course the size of the screw itself.
- Lateral: lateral loads cause an inflection of the screw and are always to be considered harmful loads, therefore they must be limited to a minimum. They can be caused by the type of load applied, but also by a non-perfect assembly, forcing the screw into an abnormal position.
Options:
- Traveling screw: the rotary movement of the input shaft is transformed into a linear displacement of the lifting screw (screw integral with the load)
- Rotating screw: the rotary movement of the input shaft is transformed into a rotation of the lifting screw, which sets in motion the lead nut (lead nut integral with the load)
- Lifting screws: stainless steel trapezoidal screws, stainless steel left trapezoidal screws, recirculating ball screw, increased trapezoidal screws
- Input executions: double shaft, single shaft, hollow shaft, special executions
